<\/strong><\/font><\/div>\n


\nQuality Initiatives in SEDC Sarawak started when the organization
\nembarked on its Quality journey in the early 90\u2019s with the launching of
\nTotal Quality Management (TQM) in year 2002.
\n<\/font><\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

\nThe emphasis by the government on Quality Control Circle (QCC) had led
\nto the formation of KMK (Operation Eagle) in 1993 and hence the
\nformation of the then Accountability Sector (now Quality Management
\nDivision) further strengthened the Quality drives in the organization.<\/font><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

\nTo further strengthen the Quality drives in SEDC,the SEDC management
\nhad established a Quality Council (QC) in the year 2002 to oversee the
\norganization of Quality related activities.<\/font><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

\nIt has a strong support by the SEDC Chairman himself as the Advisor and
\nheaded by the General Manager with all Divisional Directors as the
\nCouncil members.<\/font><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

\nIn implementing the Quality initiatives, the main challenges such as
\nlack of awareness, inadequate knowledge and skill in implementing
\nQuality initiatives and getting full commitment of staff to drive the
\nQuality programmes are amongst the key issues faced.<\/font><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

\nSEDC then overcame these problems through:-<\/font><\/div>\n
    \n
  • Proper Quality Council Structure which
    \nclearly chart the Quality direction, policies, strategies, objectives
    \nand at the same time monitoring the Quality initiatives to ensure
    \nsustainability and resolving issues, <\/font>\n<\/li>\n
  • A series of training and promotion when necessary, <\/font>\n<\/li>\n
  • Incentives system to motivate staff and
    \nrecognize their effort and commitment in supporting and implementing
    \nQuality activities, <\/font>\n<\/li>\n
  • Systematic coordinating mechanism \u2013annual calendarise activity, <\/font>\n<\/li>\n
  • Top management;s commitment \u2013Leading by Example<\/font><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Quality Activities 2005<\/strong><\/font><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
    <\/strong> <\/div>\n

    \n5S Programme<\/strong><\/font><\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n

    \nThe 5S Programme was launched on 22 July 2005 after a series of
    \ntrainings and seminars dating back from April 2004 till the launching
    \nday by National Productivity Corporation (NPC), Sarawak.<\/font><\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n

    \nLaunched by SEDC Chairman, YB Datuk Hj Talib Zulpilip,the programme
    \naimed to improve the productivity of the staff hence creating a more
    \ncomfortable and organized workplace.<\/font><\/div>\n

    \nNumerous activities have also been done throughout the period of five
    \nmonth. There were 5S Theme Competition,5S Song
    \nCompetition,Gotong-Royong activities and visits to 5S Certified
    \nCorporation,just to name a few.<\/font><\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n

    \nThere were also promotional activities,in keeping the 5S spirit alive
    \nduring the implementing period.By implementing the 5S Programme,not
    \nonly does the Corporation achieved the objective of the programme,but
    \nit has also instilled invaluable values such as teamwork and
    \nself-discipline amongst the staff.<\/font><\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n

    \nCertification Audit by third party (NPC) was conducted on 20 December
    \n2005 and based on the audit results SEDC has been awarded the 5S
    \nCertification.<\/font><\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n

    \nMS ISO 9001:2000<\/p>\n

    <\/strong><\/font><\/div>\n

    <\/strong><\/font> <\/div>\n
    The second major event in the SEDC Q Calendar is
    \nthe conversion of MS ISO 9001:2000. With an internal manpower and
    \nguidance provided by MAMPU, the conversion process has been conducted
    \nthroughout the year.<\/font><\/div>\n

    \nThe compliance audit by MAMPU was conducted from 27-29 December. To
    \ndate, the result of the audit is still pending for the Certification
    \nMeeting in January 2006.<\/font><\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n

    \nInnovative Control Circle (ICC)<\/p>\n

    <\/strong><\/font><\/div>\n

    <\/strong><\/font> <\/div>\n
    In 2005, ICC activities started off with a Seminar
    \non the New Judging Criteria by National Productivity Corporation (NPC)
    \nSarawak in February. This was later followed by the yearly SEDC
    \nIn-house ICC Convention in June.With more than ten circle participating
    \n,this event was a great success.<\/font><\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n

    \nIn November, Cik Siti Nurazlina Dollah Ahmat Usop being the Acting
    \nDirector of Quality Management Division has been given the honour to be
    \none of the panel members for the Forum KMK Kebangsaan during the
    \nKonvensyen Kumpulan Meningkat Mutu Kerja (KMK) Peringkat Kebangsaan ke
    \n22 Sektor Awam Tahun 2005 jointly organized by INTAN, MAMPU and the
    \nPahang State Secretary\u2019s Office.<\/font><\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n

    \nWith a paper presentation entitled \u201cMencapai Kecemerlangan: Pengalaman
    \nSEDC Sarawak Dalam Melaksanakan KMK Dalam Organisasi\u201d,SEDC has managed
    \nto share their experiences in ICC throughout the ten years
    \nimplementation period with other agencies and companies that have
    \nparticipated in the convention beside expanding their networking at the
    \nsame time.<\/font><\/div>\n

    Quality Festival 2005<\/b><\/font>\n<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n

    \nThe SEDC Quality Festival was conducted for a week in the month of
    \nSeptember. Numerous activities;Q-Theme,Q-DanceRobic,Q-Hunt,Q-Operation
    \nRoom,Q-Speaking,Q-Talk,Q-Look,Q-Award,Q-Dinner,has kept the organizer
    \nbusy for the week.
    \nThe Festival was concluded with a Q-Dinner with a Garden Concept and
    \nWhite and Green Dress Code at the Futsal Court, Menara SEDC.<\/font><\/div>\n

    \nWith the successful implementation of the programme in 2005, this year
    \nSEDC is targeting to expand the programme to its Regional Offices and
    \nSubsidiary Companies at the same time maintaining the 5S in the Menara
    \nSEDC.<\/font><\/div>\n

    \nThe review of certain processes will be on-going to constantly update and ensure that the procedures are being complied with.<\/font><\/div>\n

    \nInnovative Control Circle (ICC)<\/strong><\/font><\/div>\n

    \nIn February,an ICC Camp will be held in Holiday Inn Damai Lagoon.
    \nParticipations from SEDC Hotels, Subsidiary Companies and staff are
    \nexpected for this year\u2019s camp.As was the practice,a SEDC In-House
    \nConvention will be held sometime in June.<\/font><\/div>\n
