All the 27 teaching colleges nation wide are now
\nofficially upgraded to Teachers Education Institute (IPG) effective 6th<\/sup>
\nMay 2006. This move is in line with the Malaysian government\u2019s effort to
\nupgrade the status of the teaching profession and raise the standard of
\nteachers\u2019 training in the country, said Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Datuk Seri
\nMohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

With this change, IPGs will be able to offer Bachelor
\nlevel courses for future teachers, explained Datuk Seri Mohd Najib during the
\ndeclaration ceremony at Tun Abdul Razak Teaching Institute, Kota Samarahan.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The country is now on the right track to fulfil the
\nneeds and meet its target of having 100 percent graduate teachers in Secondary
\nSchools and 50 percents of graduate teachers in Primary Schools by the end of
\nyear 2010.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>IPGs are
\nenvisioned to improve the teaching and learning quality and skills of Malaysian
\nteachers as well as produce more qualified teachers to implement the Teaching
\nand Learning of Science and Mathematics in English.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>To ensure that
\nonly qualified teachers will enter the teaching profession, the terms of
\nadmission into IPG\u2019s will be revised to and strictly enforced. Datuk Seri Mohd
\nNajib enjoined the Teaching Services Commission to admit only the committed and
\ndedicated teachers.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTeachers must have the feeling of responsibilities in
\nfulfilling the government and people\u2019s aspirations,\u201d the Deputy Prime Minister
\nsaid.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>He also
\nadvised the teachers to prepare themselves to be assigned throughout the
\nnation, including the rural areas in Sabah and Sarawak.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The declaration of IPG was initiated by the <\/span>Education Minister, YB Dato Sri Hishammudian
\nbin Tun Hussein who submitted the proposal that was accepted by the cabinet
\nministers\u2019 meeting on 13th<\/sup> July last year.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
