The
\nSaratok Sports Complex was handed over to the Saratok District Council
\nduring a handing over ceremony that was held on 13 October 2006. The
\nceremony was officially witnessed by Y.B. Datuk Peter Nyarok Ak.
\nEntrie, Sarawak Assistant Minister of Agriculture (Farmers\u2019
\nOrganisation and Co-operative). <\/p>\n

To note, construction of the
\nsports complex began on 20 October 2004 and was completed on 31 March
\n2006. The total cost of the sports complex\u2019s construction (in line with
\nthe 8th Malaysia Plan\u2019s approval) was RM 3.5 million. In terms of size,
\nthe sports complex encompasses an area of 10 acres and is furbished
\nwith the following facilities:

2. Football Field<\/font>
3. Discus Hammer <\/font>
4. Pole Vault<\/font>
5. Shot Put<\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

During
\nthe implementation of this project, Saratok was a town with a
\npopulation of 18,233, giving way to the realisation that whilst the
\npopulation was continuing to grow, the town did not have any
\nstandardised sports facilities. <\/p>\n

The only places that could be
\nused for playing sports were the district council\u2019s open field and town
\nhall. Thus, the district council felt that the construction of a sports
\ncomplex would enable the residents of Saratok to become involved in
\nsports on a community level, enabling them to recreationally
\nparticipate in activities that would improve their health and build
\nclose ties and relationships with each other, in line with the
\ngovernment\u2019s plan to create a caring Malaysian society. With this in
\nview, it only seemed logical that a sports centre that was properly
\nequipped be built for the people as a means of encouraging sports and
\nfitness. <\/p>\n

The main objective and function of the sports complex
\nis to develop the local community\u2019s participation in sports-related
\nactivities as well as creating a sense of civic mindedness amongst the
\npeople of Saratok.<\/p>\n

Hopefully, the existence of the Saratok
\nSports Complex will serve as an impetus towards sports becoming an
\nimportant recreational activity in Saratok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
