This governance handbook outlines how to set up good and robust governance structures in new mutuals. It will be a useful resource for groups considering mutualisation, services currently in the process of spinning out and newly established mutuals. It provides guidance on the role and functions of a mutuals\u2019 governing board and their legal duties, as well as recommended structures of accountability, monitoring and delegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The handbook is drafted on the assumption that the mutual is a Community Interest Company, which is a particular kind of registered company. Therefore it should only be used as a starting point and adapted to apply to the specific circumstances of each mutual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been developed by Bates Wells Braithwaite in collaboration with mutuals and the Mutuals Team at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
