Among the guidance by WHO on the use of mask includes who should be wearing a mask, when a mask should be worn and what a mask should be made of<\/em><\/p>\n

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently released an update guidance on the use of mask for control of Covid-19.<\/p>\n

Firstly, in areas with widespread of transmission WHO director general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that WHO advises medical masks for all people working in clinical areas of health facility.<\/p>\n

This is not only for workers working with patients for Covid-19.<\/p>\n

Secondly, in areas with community transmission, WHO advises that people aged 60 years or over, or those with underlying conditions should wear a medical mask in situations where physical distancing is not possible.<\/p>\n

Third, on the use of masks by the general public in areas with community transmission.<\/p>\n

In light of evolving evidence, WHO is also advising governments should encourage the general public to wear masks where there is widespread transmission and physical distancing is difficult.<\/p>\n

This includes situations such as public transports, shops or in other confined and crowded environments.<\/p>\n

Dr Tedros also revealed new information on the composition of new fabric masks, based on academic research requested by WHO.<\/p>\n

WHO advises that the fabric should be made at least of three different layers of materials.<\/p>\n
